Crime Stoppers among finalists for Landmark Award

Crime Stoppers of Houston’s mission is to solve and prevent serious crime in the Greater Houston area in partnership with citizens, media and the criminal justice system.  Crime Stoppers approached Merriman Holt to renovate an existing building along historic Main Street to house their call center and business offices.  The project’s goal is to transform the midtown neighborhood as well as consolidate their multiple Crime Stoppers offices and create a safer community for the future.  The project is a finalist for the Houston Business Journal’s 2012 Landmark Award.  The Landmark Awards celebrate the functionality and beauty of various buildings and developments in the Houston area.

Congratulations, Crime Stoppers of Houston!

HISD Successful Bid Opening!

Houston Independent School District’s Alcott Elementary School, Garden Villas Elementary School, and Woodson Middle School (K-8) await selection of a General Contractor after a successful bid opening.

After nearly two years of hard work, the design team issued for bid, a three school renovation package, with a construction budget of approximately 9.5 million dollars. Funded through bonds approved by voters in 2007, Alcott Elementary School, Garden Villas Elementary School, and Woodson Middle School (K-8) will undergo campus renovations to include campus-wide ADA upgrades, complete restroom renovations, and mechanical and electrical upgrades. New exterior lighting for added security is included in the electrical renovations. Site drainage improvements, minor roofing/ flashing repair at mechanical equipment replacement, along with door and storefront replacement with new insulated glazing are part of a complete building envelope overhaul. Existing classrooms will get new casework, visual display surfaces, flooring, ceiling, and light fixture replacement. New accessible restrooms will be added to existing Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms.

Merriman Holt Architects is pleased with the bid opening results, which revealed several bidders all within a tight dollar range, and all under budget. Once HISD selects a G.C. and awards the contract, the construction process can begin.

The communities of these deserving elementary and middle school age children are looking forward to the start of the much needed renovations. The 56,000 SF Alcott Elementary School, 67,300 SF Garden Villas Elementary School, and 153,600 SF Woodson Middle School campuses will have a fresh, bright look and feel about them once completed.

Crosspoint Grand Opening!

Our values are community, which plays into the functionality and multi-purpose aspect; creativity, which is why we have bold colors on the walls; ancient truth, which is why we have a chapel; and modern sound, which is why you see lot of more urban elements there.”
